Outlaw Scorn: 3030AD

Before I set off for WizardWorld: Chicago (Table 3237 B for the few of you who'll be there), I got this little tidbit about Outlaw Scorn: 3030AD. Shadowflame: 10th Anniversary Special - Available for PREORDER

UPDATE: Bloodstained Productions has decided to shift it's main focus as well as it's name in a very different direction...one in which ShadowFlame no longer fits in. However, don't fret...the book has already been picked up by another company and should be coming out this February. It's also going to be printed in a 4 issue mini series instead of one bulky graphic novel. So, good news all around. No no...don't thank me...your smiling faces are all the thanks I need, you nerdy little cherubs.

Freedom 3 Press Release

Well, I'm back from Megacon and caught up with my more deadly of the deadlines. Nitrogen #2 is done and should be at WizardWorld: LA. Now that I have a second to breathe, I figured I'd post up this Press Release for one of the titles I'm working on that hit the web a few weeks ago called Freedom 3.

MOHAWK, NY- February 21, 2006- TightLip Entertainment is set to publish the most politically explosive comic book ever produced, Freedom 3 #1. Publisher Rick Olney today released the comic book cover for Freedom 3. The image depicts the super hero Globe, a member of the United States Marine Corp's secret unit Freedom 3, punching Osama bin Laden in the face.

In fact, the cover of Freedom 3 pays homage to the most recognized Captain America cover. The Joe Simon and Jack Kirby Captain America #1 cover (March 1941, National Comics) shows the red, white and blue clad Captain America punching Adolf Hitler in the face.

The Freedom 3 cover drives home the parallel between World War II’s Adolf Hitler and al-Qaida’s Osama bin Laden of today. During this day, when times are just as turbulent as when 1940 led America into tough times; it becomes every American's responsibility to not lose sight of what makes freedom special, Rick Olney, the writer and publisher of Freedom 3 said.

Freedom 3 is about three United States Marines that are injected with a serum identified as the "Freedom" serum, enabling each Marine to take on characteristics and abilities allowing for various changes in their efforts to serve under the United States Constitution.

Globe (who is a creature of the earth), Eagle (a mute telepath with wings), and Anchor (has a fiery side that can burn and touch a person’s soul, and granite like viral touch that initially simply stalls people) makes up the Freedom 3 USMC special unit. “The recently awakened members of Freedom get handed an assignment no Marine would refuse; to hunt down and capture Osama bin Laden!” said Rick Olney.

Freedom 3 is penciled by Jim (One Shot Press, Trinity Comics) Taylor, didnt know if he was up to the task. “First off, I was a bit daunted, I mean, taking on a cover of legends in the field like Kirby and Simon? But I totally understood where Rick (Olney) was coming from as far as the intent of the cover, and the relevance of it in today's world experience.”

While on the other hand, Freedom 3 colorist; Dash (Savage Dragon: GodWar, SuperPatriot: War on Terror, Outlaw Scorn 3030 AD) Martin was totally pumped about the book. “It's about time someone did it. No sense in modern stories STILL revolving around Hitler when we have a current real world baddie.”

TightLip Entertainment Creative Director and Freedom 3 inker, Jeff (Faust, Night Vision, Leatherface, Jack the Lantern, Big Bang Comics, FemForce) Austin realized that, “Patriotic covers have a long tradition in comics.” TightLip Entertainment will continue the tradition in the new millennium. Jeff Austin is excited about what is on the cover, but he's also overjoyed about what isn’t on the cover. “No bar codes on covers,” he said. “Correcting 30 years of stupidity in the field... It was a mistake to slap a big bar code on the cover. It blunted the impact of the image.”

The three-issue hunt for Osama bin Laden starts in May, when the book will ship, with the story arc “What Price Freedom”. The 28-page full color comic book will retail for $2.95. Freedom 3 will be available for pre-orders for both consumers and retailers starting April 15, 2006, from TightLip Entertainment’s web site, TightLipEntertainment.com, which will launch on the same date.

The MEGACON Commeth

It's that time of the year again: MegaCon

It starts tomorrow and goes on through Sunday in Orlando this weekend. If you're going, look for me at table 10B. I'll be selling a ton of comics...and possibly 1 or 2 I had something to do with. Come on by and say hello/shout expletives. It'll be all kinds of grand. Anyway, back to packing and then off to sleep. Long day of driving/getting lost tomorrow.

-=Website Maintenance=- February 16th, 2006

Hi guys, some of you may have noticed a slight change to the ol website last night. The reason being that I'm upgrading and optimizing it to hopefully seal up some security holes. It's going to be a busy couple of weeks for me getting ready for Megacon and finishing up a bunch of projects that need to be finished ASAP, so it'll be awhile before this site is fully operational again. The tutorials are back up with a temperary page and the forums (not that they're used anymore) are back up as well. The portfolio...is being a punk...so I'm not sure when that'll be back up. I'm pretty sure the important stuff is functioning though. Anyway, bear with me for a couple weeks and everything should be all better. :-D

2005...I will END you!

Ok...maybe 2005 will end itself...but either way, tomorrow is its last day, so I figured I'd slip in one last update before 2006 comes barreling in.

First up, Abiding Perdition #3 may...or may not have...come out this week. Diamond has been a punk with this title (as well as with a lot of other indy titles) this past year. This book (written, created, and inked by Nick Schley) features an alternate cover by Khary Randolph, Nick, and myself. Be sure to check it out...if it's actually out:

Some of you may or may not know...or even really care, but at about this time last year, I was hard at work on the Mr T series. Unfortunately, preference in pencilling style took a sudden and unexpected turn, and they decided to go with someone else. Since that book is now cancelled (oopsy ), I figured I'd post up two of the covers I did for it way back when along with the original piece that got me the gig in the first place...just for kicks.

Well, that's pretty much everything I'm allowed to post for now. I can tell you that I'm inking the next Ripperman book, but can't show any pages from that yet. Colors on Nitrogen #2 are still chugging along. Work on two other series is about to get underway within the next few weeks. I guess that's it for now.

Hey look...STUFF!

Wow...3 updates in one year? I hope I don't hurt myself. :D

Anyway, I figured I'd update youse guys on what I'm working on and worked on in the last few months...the stuff I can talk about anyway. First up...the last issue of the Savage Dragon: Godwar (Robert Kirkman/Mark Englert) miniseries is done and at the printer right now. It should be out in December. Here's issue 4's cover and a spread from that issue that was also in Robert Kirkman's column last week:

Also mentioned on Kirkman's column is SuperPatriot: War on Terror #3 (Pencils by E.J.Su). You probably see Kanila Tripp's name in the credits there. Well, the reason for that is due to some schedule conflicts and I had to take myself off the book...or it'd be even later than it is now. So Kanila's stepped in to finish that issue up and I assume the next, final issue. From what I've seen, he's kicking ass on it as usual.

WizardWorld: Chicago has come and gone. I had fun. I got to finally see a lot of the books I had been working on up to that point. One of them was Nitrogen #1 published by Rob Liefeld's Arcade Comics. It was written by Brandon Thomas, drawn by Jon Malin, and I messed it all up with my colors. :P
From what I hear, it will be out in comic shops this December. Here's one of the covers (it has a few varients) and a couple of the interior pages:

We're all hard at work on issue #2 right now. Luckily, I have longer than just a week and a half to color it...so I'm hoping it'll turn out even better than the first. Rob posted a few preview pages on his site from it...so I'll put them up here, too.

Also at the show was Storytellers #1 and Absolute Zeroes #1, both by Jeremy Dale. Cover colors on both of them by me as well as the black and white version of a poorly proportioned, just-for-kicks pinup I did awhile back that's in the Absolute Zeroes book. The color version (featuring the monster from Lost...the way I hope it looks. heh) is below.

The #0 issue of Outlaw Scorn: 3030 AD was also there. It was a black and white book, so I only had the colors on the cover...but I'm working on coloring the whole book right now. #0 was basically a preview for issue #1...which should be out next year some time. Some of you (yeah you...that one guy over there who still visits the site) may have noticed a couple things missing after the website's 2 week hiatus. Well...I updated the software and a few things don't work well with the current website template. They're not big things, so I probably won't bother fixing it. I'm thinking a site redesign is just on the horizon anyway. On the positive side...the upate allows me to post news a lot easier. So...there's that...

I have a bunch of other stuff to mention, too...but I figure I'll save that for the next update. Might even be this week...wouldn't that be neat? I'll leave you with a few fun things I've done in the last few months for fun...mostly drawings and stuff of other people's characters...

Savage Dragon:GodWar #3 hit stores across the land on June 22nd. Go snag yourselves a shiny new copy while you're at the shop on Thursday.

Considering how long it's been since the last update, this one is pretty weak isn't it? Well, I assure you all (both of you), that I've been working my butt off...and you'll get a larger update real soon to see what I've been so busy with...probably after SDCC...which I won't be at. Be sure to track me down at WizardWorld:Chicago, though. I'm guaranteed to be at that one (because I can't return plane tickets. :D )
